Three islands of Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos are what make up our spectacular Sporades. These green, wooded islands have become more popular with the Mamma Mia films and certainly live up to their reputation.

Which island will you choose?
Alonissos is a small, peaceful island of stunning natural beauty, part of a protected marine park. Its clear turquoise waters are perfect for scuba diving and snorkeling, and if you’re lucky, you may spot the rare Mediterranean Monk Seal in its natural habitat.
Beyond the sea, Alonissos is a haven for walkers and mountain bikers, with very little traffic and scenic trails connecting charming villages. The island also boasts a rich history, with archaeological finds dating back to prehistoric times. The highlight for many visitors is the Chora, or Old Village, where narrow streets, traditional tavernas, and a ruined fortress sit atop the hill, offering some of the best views in the Sporades. Skiathos may be small, but it boasts an incredible 68 beaches, most of them golden sand, with only the occasional pebble beach to seek out. Its stunning coastline makes it a paradise for sun-seekers and swimmers.
Beyond the beaches, Skiathos Town offers a charming mix of red-roofed houses, stone-paved streets, and vibrant nightlife, from quiet cafés to lively bars and music clubs. A wide selection of restaurants ensures there’s something for every taste. The island’s excellent bus service links the town with most beaches, and day trips to nearby Skopelos and Alonissos are easy to arrange. While Skiathos is popular with tourists, the west coast and interior remain largely unspoilt, with traditional farming villages offering a peaceful escape. Think Mamma Mia was filmed entirely on Skopelos? Not quite—the iconic scene with Meryl Streep running up the church stairs was actually shot here, but only a small part of the movie was filmed on the island.
Despite increased tourism since the film, Skopelos has maintained its authenticity. Simple pleasures abound, from traditional cheese and vegetable pies to local plums and wine, enjoyed after wandering the island’s scenic paths. The capital, Skopelos Town, is full of charm, with over 360 churches, a Venetian castle in ruins, and a lively waterfront lined with cafés and tavernas. For a different perspective, visit Glossa, the northern hilltop village overlooking Skiathos. For beach lovers, Panormos is a standout, a tranquil spot with a few waterfront tavernas, perfect for swimming and relaxing.
