Dr Jekyll or Mr Hyde?..........
At only 24 miles from Rhodes, Symi can be a Jekyll and Hyde island. During the day, the main town can be crammed with daytrippers from its nearby neighbour.
However, this is normally only for a few hours and then normal service resumes. This is when the real Symi comes into play.
For many years, the island was a commercial centre which is why there are so many impressive houses lining the hills around the bay.
The capital has two distinctive sections to it – Chorio (at the top) and Yialos (the bottom). They are linked by 400 steps called Kali Strata. They each have their own tavernas, shops and cafes as well as their own atmosphere.
Beaches on the island can be found at Pedi, Emborio, Marathounda and Nanou and these offer great snorkeling opportunities due to their pebbly nature.
For those who like to explore the 6th century monastery at Panormitis has amazing Byzantine frescos and intricate carvings.
Symi is an island with a bit of an attitude, but we like that – give it a go and see for yourself!
Please be aware that due to ferry timings, a stay overnight in Rhodes may be required in either direction.

Happy People
Thank you for an absolutely fabulous holiday Caroline! I'm sure we will be returning to Symi many times and the Iapetos Village. Thanks for your help! Chris, I just wanted to say many thanks to you and your team for sorting out a fabulous holiday for us in Symi. We had an absolutely superb time and what a place. The travel arrangements were spot on and flights and ferry worked a treat. The team have booked three very different holidays for me, two for a couple and one for a group of nine. They listened to our requirements and used their expert knowledge of Greece to provide us with several options from which to choose. I found them to be very professional, nothing is too much trouble and they strive to find a good deal. I would not hesitate to recommend them. |
