Our personal favourite.............
Sifnos is the favourite island of the Greek Specialist. It is truly a gem amongst the Greek islands and with no airport (the nearest is on the neighbouring island of Milos), any tourists wishing to get here have to make the effort to get on a ferry.
These are frequent enough with at least two sailings daily from Piraeus and connections are also available from Mykonos and Santorini.
The port of Kamares is your first view of Sifnos and it has a distinctive charm about the place. With a long, shelving sandy beach that is perfectly protected and a great variety of bars and tavernas, it makes a good place to stay especially with the selection of hotels and the bus service that links you to the rest of the island.
Apollonia is the capital of the island and is inland. Here the wandering streets almost make it feel like a mini Mykonos with fancy bars on rooftops and another good selection of tavernas.
Other resorts on the island include Vathy, Platy Gialos, Faros and Cheronissos. Also don't get lost in the Kastro with its maze of alleys which has a couple of good bars and tavernas.
Just don't tell too many people about it!
Please be aware that due to ferry and flight timings, a stay overnight in Athens may be required in either direction.

Happy People
Chris, Just like to say a massive thank you! Our first hotel and location is absolutely stunning, we totally love it. Got here late last night (ferry was delayed) but checked in then wandered into the harbour had an amazing gyros and a beer and watched the cats playing on the beach. Perfect night sleep and ready to chill on the beach today and gets some sun. Already loving Sifnos. Just to let you know that we had a wonderful holiday. The planes and ferries went without a hitch and the hotels first class. What lovely peaceful islands, with the people being so friendly. Milos is lovely but you were right about Sifnos, it is a great little island. Chris, I can't thank you enough for booking the perfect holiday. Everything has gone like clockwork, and George and his colleagues at the Sifnos hotel are charming. It's lovely and quiet, and every restaurant always has room. I did like the hike from Kamares to Appollonia. |
