A delightful option..........
Another of the Greek islands which seemed to drop off the map in the late 80s/early 90s where UK tourist makers were concerned is Samos.
It’s hard to understand why – it has great beaches, a good public transport network to get around, options for day trips if you want to explore, history aplenty and yet there is only one flight a week from the UK.
It is worth the effort. Also known for its wine, Samos has great tavernas for evening meals either along the harbourside or by the beaches.
There are great options for day trips – Patmos, Ephesus and sunset bbq cruises which all operate out of Pythagorian.
Accommodation is generally in Samos Town, Pythagorian or Kokkari.
Despite the island having a lack of direct flights from the UK, its ‘if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it’ attitude seems to be doing it just fine – there are no big hotels as such.
It also has its share of repeat guests every year, no matter how hard it is to get there.
