Flights to Nissyros
There is no airport on Nissyros so we recommend flying into Kos and transferring by boat from there. Kos has direct flights from London Gatwick, London Heathrow, Bristol, Manchester, Glasgow, Birmingham, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Stansted, Newcastle, Liverpool, Belfast International and Doncaster Sheffield.

Ferries to Nissyros
Ferries from Nissyros go from Mandraki. The island is linked to most other Dodecanese islands through the double daily catamaran service that runs from Rhodes up to Patmos. Transferring from Kos will either be from Kos Town or Kardamena. We will advise which port at the time of booking.

A volcanic rumble?..........
Everyone has heard of Mount Etna and Mount Vesuvius in Italy and the majority of people know that Santorini was created by a huge volcanic eruption.
However, it is Nissyros that most people will not have heard of. The two large volcanic craters at the centre of the island are still active (although the last eruption was in 1888 so you are safe!) and the volcanic soil makes the island much greener than its nearby neighbours.
You can go and walk on the crater floor and the sounds that you hear are said to be the groans of a giant defeated in battle by Poseidon.
Luckily, we don’t think you will be groaning much as it is one of those islands which is still untouched by tourism.
Mandraki is the capital and harbour of the island and has the majority of facilities as well. The narrow, pebbled streets and squares are lined with houses made from the local volcanic rock and are insulated with pumice stone.
Nightlife is not intense on Nisyros but with some tavernas, cafes and bars surely you will have a good time.
Please be aware that due to ferry timings, a stay overnight in Kos may be required in either direction.
