Meganisi actually means the big island in Greek, which is quite ironic as it is not very big at all. What it lacks in size it makes up in beauty and the local population of around 1000 people will make you feel very welcome at having made the effort to get here.
A very green island, its coastline is fringed with turquoise bays and pebbled beaches and with very little traffic is great for those who like to explore its wandering lanes.
You can take a boat trip which will pass the island of Scorpios, once the haunt of the famous Onassis family (although now sold to the Russians who are building a new resort on the island).
There are 3 villages on Meganissi - Spartochori, Katomera and Vathi, which is considered to be the most picturesque village on the island.
If your ideal holiday consists of no stress, beautiful surroundings, friendly welcomes and relaxation (whether on the beach or seeing where your next wander takes you), then perhaps you should consider Meganisi.
