There is no airport on Hydra so we recommend flying into Athens and transferring by boat from there. Athens Airport has direct flights from London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, Newcastle, Luton, Edinburgh and Stansted.

The celebrity playground?..........
As you step off the boat or hydrofoil that has brought you to Hydra, pause for a second and listen.
The chattering of your fellow passengers, a child shouting to their friend and then it dawns upon you. There is no traffic noise.
You look for your hotel on a sign and a smiling Greek man has it in one hand and a rein holding a donkey in the other. Yes that will be carrying your luggage to your accommodation.
Its part of the charm that has enticed so many – Leonard Cohen, Mick Jagger, Pink Floyd, Sophia Loren, over the years.
The amphitheatrical harbour surrounds the expensive yachts moored up as their inhabitants partake in the food and drink served up by a variety of tavernas, restaurants and bars.
Its not really a beach island given that the majority are pebbled but excursion boats depart from the port and make the tour of the island stopping at each of them along the way. The best beach is probably Vlychos which has tavernas for refreshments.
Please be aware that due to ferry and flight timings, a stay overnight in Athens may be required in either direction.
