The island atmosphere so close to Athens..........
Aegina lies only 40 minutes from Piraeus on one of the frequent hydrofoil services. It therefore is incredibly popular with daytrippers from the capital and for residents of the capital to come over for the weekend.
This isn’t a negative however as it keeps the standards of the islands accommodation and tavernas up whilst keeping the prices down!
The main town has a long, colourful waterfront with tavernas known especially for their fresh fish. As you move away from the waterfront, there are neoclassical buildings, narrow back streets and squares to explore.
There is also history on the island and the temple of Athena Aphaia, ruined medieval village of Paleochora and the monastery of Agios Nektarios are all worth a visit.
Beaches also are good – mainly organised but you can always find a secluded cove if you want to take things a little quieter.
Just a reminder – you should book in advance for Aegina if you are interested due to the popularity of the island with the Athenians.
Please be aware that due to ferry and flight timings, a stay overnight in Athens may be required in either direction.

Happy People
Thank you very much for organising our holiday, we had a lovely time and all went very smoothly. Aegina was a lovely island. The team have booked three very different holidays for me, two for a couple and one for a group of nine. They listened to our requirements and used their expert knowledge of Greece to provide us with several options from which to choose. I found them to be very professional, nothing is too much trouble and they strive to find a good deal. I would not hesitate to recommend them. The business has booked me a few different holidays ranging from 2 weeks away in the sun to City Breaks. They have a great knowledge and understanding of your needs and requirements when booking a holiday. They always try to accommodate your budget and work extremely hard to get you what you're asking for. They have an extremely good knowledge of the Greek Islands and never fail when recommending specific places. I would always recommend the team as they are helpful and professional at all times. |
